Police: ’54 killed, 90 injured’ in latest Borno attack

The Borno state command of the Nigeria police force on Monday said 54 persons lost their lives, while 90 sustained injuries in the multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri, capital of the state on Sunday.

Victor Isuku, spokesman for the command, said this while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri.

“At about 19.45 hours on Sunday, there were multiple explosions at Ajilari Cross Evening Market, Ngomari Area of Maiduguri when a female suicide bomber blew herself up in the busy market,” he said.

Isuku said another bomb was detonated inside a mosque while Muslim faithful were observing their evening prayers and that a third explosion occurred when some suspected insurgents threw explosives into a viewing centre.
