Police arraign lawyer for ‘criticising’ Aiyedatiwa on Facebook over 2025 Ondo budget

The police command in Ondo has arraigned Wale Odusola, a lawyer, for allegedly exposing Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of the state, to public ridicule.

Police on Tuesday arraigned Odusola on a three-count charge before a magistrate court in Akure, the state capital.

The lawyer pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In the charge sheet, police accused the lawyer of “emotional, verbal, and psychological” abuse towards Aiyedatiwa, which was allegedly perpetrated in a video posted on his Facebook page.

The police also alleged that Odusola accused Aiyedatiwa of “failing to be parochial and neglecting his constituency”.

The police added that the lawyer insinuated that Aiyedatiwa “engaged in extra-marital affairs with finance commissioner, Mrs. Wunmi Isaac”.

During the court proceedings, the police asked the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta prison, but the magistrate granted him bail on self-recognition.

BACKGROUND.

On February 11, Odusola, who hails from the same LGA—Ilaje—with Aiyedatiwa, criticised the governor for allegedly marginalising the local council.

The lawyer stated that the state government allocated N3 billion for capital projects in Owo LGA in the 2025 budget, while Ilaje LGA received a single project worth N100 million.

Odusola stated that as the first governor from Ilaje LGA, Aiyedatiwa must ensure the area experiences meaningful development.

He also recorded a series of videos in the Ilaje dialect, criticising the governor over the budgetary allocation.

On February 12, Odusola received a letter from the Ondo police command to appear at a station in Akure over a “case of conduct likely to cause breach of peace”.

The lawyer was released on Monday after the interview and was asked to return on Tuesday.
