Police arraign man for ‘impersonating soldier’ in Oyo

The police command in Oyo has arraigned one Pelumi Ayodele, a 29-year-old man, for allegedly impersonating an army officer.

The defendant was arraigned in a magistrates’ court sitting in the Iyaganku area of Oyo on Friday.

NAN reports that Ayodele, who has no fixed address, is facing a single charge of impersonation to which he entered a not-guilty plea. 

Kausarat Ayofe, the presiding judge, set bail for the defendant at N200,000, requiring two reliable sureties of equal amount.

Ayofe stipulated that one surety must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Toyin Ibrahim, the police prosecutor, told the court that Ayodele was accused of misrepresenting himself as an army officer by donning military uniform and insignia.

He added that the defendant committed the offence on June 22 in the Bodija area of Ibadan.

The prosecutor said the crime violates Section 109 of the Criminal Law of Oyo 2000.

The law stipulates one year imprisonment for an offender.

The case was adjourned to September 4 for further proceedings.
