Police arrest 10 suspects linked to robberies in FCT, Nasarawa

Ten suspected members of a gang linked to robberies in the federal capital territory (FCT) and Nasarawa state have been arrested by operatives of the FCT police command.

Parading the suspects, Sadiq Abubakar, FCT police commissioner,  said they were arrested at a hotel in the Masaka area of Nasarawa state, a few kilometres from the FCT.

Some of the items reportedly recovered from the suspects include five AK-47 rifles, four G-3 rifles, 122 live ammunition of 7.62MM, one locally-made pistol without ammunition, three ballistic vests, six AK-47 empty magazines, and seven G-3 empty magazines.

Other items include charms, one police sergeant warrant card, one vigilante ID card, one civil defence identity card, one Toyota Camry 2000 model, one Gold-3 wagon, two generators, and one filing machine.

The police also arrested and paraded four suspects linked to armed robberies in the Maitama, Garki, Wuse and Central areas of the FCT.

The suspects were alleged to have robbed point of sale (POS) operators and residents.

Items said to have been recovered from the suspects include 20 mobile phones, two television sets, two English handguns, three locally-produced pistols, and 14 rounds of live ammunition.

The FCT police command also said its anti-kidnapping unit raided a hideout in the outskirts of Abuja.

Two suspects were arrested and in the course of interrogation, they reportedly confessed to supplying ammunition to robbers and bandits, while items thought to belong to kidnap victims and 900 live bullet rounds were discovered at the hideout.
