Police arrest 11 persons ‘for stealing motorcycle, cattle’ in Jigawa

The police command in Jigawa says it has arrested 11 suspects, including a foreigner from Niger Republic, for allegedly stealing a car, motorcycle, cattle and other valuables in three LGAs of the state.

Lawan Shiisu, spokesperson of the command, announced the development on Wednesday.

Shiisu said the suspects were arrested in separate operations between December 22 and December 29, 2023 in Babura, Kiyawa and Suletankarkar LGAs of the state.

He explained that one of the suspects, identified as Abdulhadi Saidu, 25, and resident of Gujungu town, was arrested with two cows suspected to be stolen along Kiyawa-Balago road, in Kiyawa LGA.

The suspect could not give satisfactory account of the cows when questioned, the spokesperson said.

Shiisu further said another suspect, identified as Ibrahim Rabiu, a resident of Bakin Kasuwa, in Kiyawa LGA, was arrested with 15 pieces of roofing zinc.

He said during interrogation, the suspect confessed that he stole the roofing zinc.

The spokesperson said two of the suspects, identified as Sagiru Ibrahim and Zayyanu Umar, were arrested in Babura LGA for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

He added that the suspects confessed to committing the crime.

Shiisu said six of the suspects were arrested in Kazaure LGA for alleged theft of cattle and a generator in Kazaure LGA.

The spokesperson said the suspects, including Ibrahim Haruna of Tinkim village in Niger Republic, confessed to committing the crime.

He said the suspects would be charged to court when investigations are concluded.
