The police command in Kano says it has arrested 17 suspected thugs over a planned protest at Nassarawa palace, residence of Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano.
The tussle over the emirship of Kano has lasted for months. In May 2024, a high court in Kano restrained Bayero from parading himself as the emir of Kano following the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II.
On Wednesday, Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano state police command, said warned residents to shelve the planned protest.
The police spokesperson said adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.”
