Police arrest eight ‘armed robbers’, recover weapons in Imo

The Imo police command says its operatives have arrested eight suspected armed robbers in the state.

Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson in Imo, detailed in a statement that the suspects were apprehended on Monday at different locations in Avu, Irete, Okuku, Ihiagwa and Obinze in Owerri west LGA. 

“The suspects are currently undergoing intensive investigation to determine their level of involvement and to aid in apprehending other accomplices,” the statement reads.

“This underscores the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates and ensuring public safety.”

Okoye added that operatives also recovered weapons, including two automatic pump action guns, 17 live cartridges, nine walkie-talkies, three cutlasses, seven mobile phones, laptops, a power bike, and other incriminating items.

He said Aboki Danjuma, the commissioner of police in the state, has set up a special tactical unit to identify and flush out criminals hiding in forests and other spots in Imo.

Danjuma urged citizens to support the police by providing credible information on suspicious activities.

“To further strengthen security operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has established a special tactical unit tasked with identifying and flushing out criminals hiding in forests and other hideouts across the state,” Okoye said.

“This specialised unit, equipped for intelligence-driven operations, will work closely with security agencies and local vigilantes to sustain the fight against crime and criminality.
