Police arrest ‘four bandits’, recover weapons in Benue

The Benue police command says four suspected bandits have been arrested for alleged kidnapping and killing of residents in the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sewuese Anene, police spokesperson in Benue, said the bandits operating as a gang were arrested by troops of operation Zanda joint task force.

Anene said the suspects identified as Ordoonku Sunday Kusuv, Msughter Nyieyem, Terkaa Tayough and Liambee Adeadegh also known as Don-Konyo, were arrested in Sankera area of the state.

“As part of follow up on clampdown on bandits and their activities in Sankera axis of Benue state, officers of the Operation Zenda JTF trailed and arrested some members of a viscous syndicate led by one Anyogor Mnguor and Terhemen Mzaga also known as fullfire”.

“This gang members specialise in kidnapping, attacking and killing members of the public. The most recent is the gruesome murder of innocent people at Akpuna community on 21/7/2023 in Ukum LGA.”

She said the operatives recovered nine rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition from the suspects.

In another development, the operatives nabbed a suspected bandit identified as Sonter Tyozughul over alleged involvement in the abduction of Asema Msuega, a resident doctor at General Hospital in Ukum.

The doctor, who was kidnapped on July 23, was said to have been released by his abductors.

The police spokesperson added that the suspect confessed to having been involved in the crime.
