The Niger state police command says its operatives have arrested four suspects for robbery and thuggery.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the command, said the police also recovered stolen items, including a car and weapons from the suspects.
Abiodun said a 17-year-old suspect was arrested on September 13 after robbing a point of sale (POS) machine operator at Lawu Estate, Bosso Low-Cost area in Minna, the state capital.
The police spokesperson said two suspects, Abba Salihu, 20, and Amar Haladu, 18, were also arrested after attacking and robbing people near Old City Gate, Eastern Bypass, Minna.
“Both suspects confessed to being part of a group causing unrest in Shango community, Minna, and have been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation,” he said.
“Additionally, on 14th September 2024, a police patrol team from Gauraka outstation found a bag containing ammunition and other items believed to belong to kidnappers.
The discovery was made during a routine patrol in the Jibi area, with assistance from community members.
“Upon the search of the said bag, the following items were found there-in one empty AK-47 magazine, two lar rifle ammunition, one AK-47 ammunition, torch lights, handsets, charms, and other personal belongings.
“On September 244, Halilu Shuaibu, 28, was intercepted by police at a checkpoint along Kaduna Road with a stolen Toyota Highlander vehicle.
“The vehicle, which was stolen from a residence in Tudun-Wada area via Sabon-Wuse, Tafa, was reportedly handed to Shuaibu by a man named Baba Gadas of Zuba.”
He added that the vehicle and suspect have been transferred to the special criminal investigation department (SCID), Minna for further investigation.
Abiodun said Shawulu Danmamman, the commissioner of police in Niger state, commendeed the efforts of residents and security agencies in collaborating to combat crime.
