The Borno police command says its operatives have arrested Kyari Kur, an inmate who escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility.

No fewer than 200 inmates reportedly escaped from the prison during the devastating floods in September.

In a statement on Friday, Nahum Daso, the state’s police spokesperson, said Kur escaped when the correctional facility’s fence collapsed due to the flood.

“Kyari Kur was serving a sentence for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Centre in Maiduguri,” Daso said.

“On October 10, 2024, police surveillance from Gubio divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur had been sighted in Gubio town.

“Responding swiftly to the information, police officers apprehended Kur.

“The convict has now been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.”

Daso reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and justice.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge them to continue providing valuable information,” he added.
