The Delta state police command says it has arrested a police inspector over the alleged murder of one Onyeka Ibe.
Bright Edafe, spokesperson of the police command, announced the development on Wednesday in a post on his official Twitter handle.
“Alleged murder of one Onyeka!!! The Police inspector has been identified, arrested, paraded, and detained. The Command assures members of the public and the deceased family of justice,” Edafe said.
“Investigation has commenced, and he will be arraigned in court for prosecution.”

The police spokesperson did not give the name of the officer.
TheCable reported that there was a protest in Asaba, Delta state capital, on Wednesday following an alleged killing of a man by a police officer.
The incident was said to have happened along Ugbolu- Illah road at a stop-and-search point.

A member of the police team on duty was said to have shot at the deceased’s car due to his refusal to stop at the checkpoint.
The killing sparked a protest by the youths who took the deceased’s body to the police headquarters, demanding justice.
Reacting in a statement signed by Olisa Ifeajika, his chief press secretary, Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta, decried the killing and appealed to residents to remain calm.
Okowa said he had directed the police to launch a “thorough investigation” into the incident.

Meanwhile, the police inspector involved in the incident said he fired his rifle at the deceased by mistake.
“I heard a voice saying, hold him, hold him. Before I could turn, the young man raised his left hand to my rifle and said I will kill you,” the police officer said.
“Before I could drag it from him, my belt entered the trigger then it fired. It was not intentional or deliberate to kill him.”
