Chinonso Ubah, a journalist with Ozisa FM, has been detained by the Imo police command for allegedly defaming Aboki Danjuma, the state’s commissioner of police.

Ubah was reportedly “kidnapped” on Sunday by unidentified gunmen, near Teachers House on Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

However, Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, told TheCable on Monday that Ubah was not kidnapped.

“No, he wasn’t kidnapped. He was arrested by the police following a petition against a video he shared publicly, which made allegations against the commissioner of police,” Okoye said.

Okoye added that Ubah was also allegedly involved in cyberstalking and inciting the public to burn the National Open University study centre in Mbano.

This is not Ubah’s first arrest.

On July 27, the journalist was detained by the police in Abuja following his arrest by operatives from the Criminal Investigation Department.

On July 28, Declan Emelumba, the commissioner for information in Imo, announced that Ubah was arrested for allegedly defaming Hope Uzodimma, governor of the state.

Emelumba claimed that Ubah had linked Uzodimma and Asari Dokubo, former Niger Delta militant leader, to the killings and insecurity in the state.

The journalist was detained for a month. However, on August 19, the FCT High Court ordered the police to release him immediately.
