Police arrest man for ‘killing brother over foodstuff’ in Anambra

The Anambra state police command has arrested a 37-year-old man identified as Anthony Okafor, for allegedly killing his brother, Emmanuel Okafor. 

A statement issued on Saturday by Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, said the suspect and deceased are from Adegbe village in Njikoka LGA of the state.

Ikenga said the duo had engaged each other in a fight over usage of foodstuffs in their home.

“The suspect has confessed to having engaged the victim in a fight over a heated argument about using foodstuffs in the house,” the statement reads.

“Kosisochukwu was said to have used a stick to pierce the deceased chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“This incident is quite disturbing and highlights the importance of addressing domestic violence and conflicts amongst family members. It also underscores the need to manage conflicts and emotions healthily and constructively to avoid irreparable consequences.”

Ikenga added that the case has been transferred to the homicide section of the state CID in Awka, the state capital.

He added that the suspect will be charged to court on after the conclusion of the investigation.
