Police arrest man over ‘abduction’ of journalist in Ogun

The police command in Ogun says its operatives have arrested one Temidayo Oladimeji over alleged abduction of Oduneye Olusegun, a journalist.

On March 9, Olusegun was kidnapped by gunmen at Mobalufon area, Ijebu Ode in Ogun state.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded N30 million ransom from the family of the victim.

On March 13, the journalist was rescued in Lagos after police officers traced his car to the Idimu area of Lagos.

The gunmen were said to have engaged in gunfire with police officers during the rescue operation.

In a statement on Tuesday, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesperson, said Oladimeji was arrested after police traced him to his hideout.

“Police traced the kidnappers to Idimu area of Lagos, where they engaged the hoodlums in gun battle,” Oyeyemi said.

“At the end of the encounter, the kidnappers escaped with serious gunshot injuries and abandoned the victim and his car.

“Luck however ran against him when he was traced to his hideout in Ijebu-ode where he was apprehended.

“Recovered from him is a locally made pistol and a live cartridge.

“Meanwhile, Frank Mba, the commissioner of police, has directed the team to intensify efforts to get the remaining members of the gang arrested.”
