Police arrest man over ‘death of girlfriend’ in Ogun

The police command in Ogun has arrested one Jamiu Salihu over the death of Temitope Elemide, a 20-year-old admission seeker, in the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, said 29-year-old Salihu was arrested after he was “seen coming out from the bush on the said day of the crime”.

The police spokesperson said the suspect is the boyfriend of the deceased, adding that the victim was preparing for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) before her death.

Odutola said the incident which happened in the Odeda LGA of the state was reported to the police on Sunday.

“There was a suspected murder report on February 25, from Odeda that a lifeless body of Elemide was seen inside the room stabbed with a knife on her head and body,” the statement reads.

“There is one Jamiu Salihu, 29-year-old boyfriend, who is suspected to have committed the heinous crime. He was (allegedly) seen coming out from the bush on the day of the crime.”
