Police arrest ‘member of syndicate who murdered man for ritual’ in Ogun

The police command in Ogun has arrested a suspected member of a “ritualist syndicate” who allegedly killed and dismembered one Oyindamola Adeyemi in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesperson in Ogun, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.

The police spokesperson said the suspect, who committed the crime on January 20, was arrested on Friday at the Ijade-Iloti area of Ijebu-Ode LGA of the state.

Oyeyemi said the suspect offered the police officers who arrested him a N1 million bribe but they rejected it.

The police spokesperson said other members of the gang had been arrested and that the suspect was apprehended following a “painstaking intelligence-based” investigation by officers from Obalende divisional headquarters

“The suspect, who had been indicted by the earlier arrested members of the syndicate as the person who bought the two legs of the victim, took to flight immediately he heard that he had been mentioned by his colleagues,” Oyeyemi said.

“Since then, the DPO of Obalende division, Murphy Salami, has detailed his detectives to be on his trail to arrest him and possibly recover the deceased’s two legs from him and prosecute him with his colleagues-in-crime.

“Luck, however, ran against him when he was apprehended at his Ijade-Iloti hideout on April 28.”

Oyeyemi said the suspect confessed to being part of the syndicate that killed the victim, adding that he was the person who severed the two legs of the deceased which was used for ritual purposes.
