Police arrest men with fake naira notes in Kebbi

The Kebbi state police command has arrested two men for being in possession of counterfeit naira notes.

Ahmed Magaji-Kontagora, state commissioner of police, made this known while parading suspects with various offences in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

Speaking with journalists during the parade, the police commissioner said the force first arrested one Bashiru Sani of Helende village in Argungu LGA for being in possession of N316,000 counterfeit naira notes. 

He said the money was in the N1,000 denomination.

“In the course of the investigation, the principal suspect, one Samaila Umar, 25-years-old, of Argungu LGA, who printed the counterfeit currency via computer desktop, was also arrested,” he said.

Speaking on another case, Magaji-Kontagora said on October 11, 2022, at about 1400hrs, one Muntari Abubakar ‘m’ of Jega LGA, reported that while on transit from Lagos to the north on August 7, 2022, he was attacked by unknown persons numbering about ten.

He said the attack happened between Bega to tollgate, and the men collected N10,000 cash and one Tecno cell phone from him.

The police boss in the state said he was later rescued by a team of policemen on patrol.

Subsequently, on August 15, 2022, Abubakar said he went to Union Bank in Jega to withdraw some money but discovered that the N9,700,000 had been withdrawn from his bank account and transferred into different bank accounts.

On receipt of the report, the police commissioner said a team of detectives swung into action and succeeded in arresting one Abu Oladeji Babatunde, a 30-year-old male, in Ogun state. 

In the course of the investigation, the CP said one Abraham Osi Richard, a 35-year-old male and Ibrahim Yaya, a 30-year-old male, were also arrested in connection with the case.

He said the suspect charmed the girl and proceeded to rape her about seven times.
