Police arrest ‘notorious bandits terrorising Katsina’, recover 100 cows

The Katsina police command says it has arrested two suspected bandits terrorising the state and some parts of Niger.

In a statement on Saturday, Abubakar Aliyu, police spokesperson in Katsina, said the suspects were arrested following credible intelligence on their activities.

He said the suspects confessed to being behind attacks in different parts of the state.

“On the 4th of July, 2023, at about 2300 hrs, the command succeeded in arresting the duo of one Ahmadu Abubakar aka Mai Boza, ‘m’, age 30 years of Wagini village, Batsari LGA, and one Abbas Lawai aka Abbas Dogo, ‘m’, age 40 years of Filin Polo quarters, Katsina state, suspected notorious terrorist-bandits,” the statement reads.

“During the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to committing the offence and further confessed to being under the camp of one Surajo, a suspected notorious bandit leader.

“They further confessed to having participated in the attack on Galadimawa, Karau-karau, Rijana, Fan Turawa, all of Kaduna state, and some parts of Niger state. The investigation is ongoing.”

Aliyu added that on the same day, the command received a distress call about an attack on a Fulani settlement at Unguwar Rogo, Rafin Gora, via Danja LGA.

He said the DPO led a team of officers to the scene where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel and successfully repelled them.

He said 100 cattle were recovered from the bandits after the encounter.

“In the course of scanning the scene, the body of one neutralized suspected terrorist was also recovered. The investigation is ongoing,” Aliyu added.
