The Kaduna police command says its operatives have arrested a “notorious gunrunner” and recovered 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles from him.
In a statement on Friday, Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, said the suspect, identified as Bitrus Gyang from Barkin Ladi, Plateau state, was apprehended in Buruku, Igabi LGA of Kaduna.
Hassan noted that Gyang was arrested on Thursday during a routine patrol by officers at Buruku bridge.
The spokesperson added that upon interrogation, Gyang admitted to being involved in arms trafficking and had transported fabricated rifles on at least three separate occasions.

“On September 19, 2024, at about 1600 hours, officers from Buruku Division, while conducting a routine patrol at Buruku Bridge, intercepted a black Golf III saloon vehicle,” he said.
“During a thorough search, the officers uncovered twenty (20) locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine concealed in the vehicle’s boot.
“The suspect is currently cooperating with the investigation, and efforts are being made to apprehend his accomplices.”

Hassan further stated that Ali Dabagi, the state commissioner of police, commended the officers for their dedication.
He assured the public that criminals, including kidnappers and bandits, would find no safe haven in Kaduna state.
