Police arrest Oyo chief whip over federal lawmaker’s death

Wasiu Akinmoyede, chief whip of Oyo state house of assembly, has been arrested by the police over the death of Temitope Olatoye, who contested the senatorial election under the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Olatoye, better known as “Sugar” in the political circle, was a member of the house of representatives before he was killed on Saturday.

A source had told TheCable that he was shot by suspected thugs in Elesu village, Lalupon, Lagelu local government area of the state.

The police reportedly arrested Akinmoyede, who represents Lagelu state constituency, over the suspicion that he might be behind the killing of Olatoye since the duo had been political rivals over the years.

“I am not aware that he has been taken to Abuja. I am only aware that he is under investigations but I am not aware whether he has been taken to Abuja or not,” Ojo said.

Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the state police command, said he knew nothing about the arrest of the chief whip..
