Police have arrested six persons for allegedly chanting provocative slogans against Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano.

Speaking with journalists on Monday, Hussaini Gumel, Kano commissioner of police, said the suspects were arrested during the inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital in the Kofar Kudu area of the state.

Gumel said the suspects, during the ceremony, chanted slogans suggesting the removal of the emir who was present at the event.

He said the suspects were heard chanting “new governor, new emir,”  insisting that Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano, should remove Ado Bayero and install a new one since there is a new government in power.

“That group of people was not invited to the event. They were intruders who came on their own, and they must have been sponsored by somebody or a group of persons,” NAN quoted Gumel as saying.

“Six persons have been identified. We used technology to track them down. We are still analysing the video footage and we are making efforts to arrest all those involved.

“We are also making efforts to get the sponsors. The traditional institution is a respectable institution,  and anybody who messes around with the traditional institution is an enemy of the police.”
