Police arrest suspected bandit, two arms suppliers in Kaduna

The Katsina police command says it has arrested a suspected bandit and two arms suppliers.

According to NAN, Mohammed Jalige, police spokesperson in Katsina, confirmed the development on Sunday.

Jalige said the suspected bandit was arrested at Sabon Gayan along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on October 2.

He said the operatives also nabbed a suspected arms supplier from Yan Siminti village in Niger while on his way to Katsina to deliver 280 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm calibre live ammunition on October 5.

“The Police command had on Oct 2, at about 1330hrs while acting on an actionable intelligence around Sabon Gaya along Kaduna-Abuja road intercepted a Sharon vehicle with Reg. No. MNA 819 NT driven by the suspect, who was from Minna, heading to Katsina State through Kaduna,” he said.

“Upon a thorough search of the said vehicle, the following were recovered: one assault rifle,18 rifle magazines and 241 rounds of live ammunition.

“The operatives while acting on cogent intelligence had on Oct 5, intercepted a gunrunner of Yan Siminti village of Niger.

“The suspect, who hails from Plateau, was on his way to Katsina State to deliver 280 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm caliber live ammunition.”

The police spokesperson said another suspected gunrunner was arrested around Galadimawa village in Giwa LGA on October 8.

He said the suspect was apprehended with a number of 7.62mm calibre of live ammunition while on his way to deliver the arms.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having been in the nefarious business for a very long time,” he added.

Yekini Ayoku, commissioner of police in the state, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure all criminals involved are arrested and prosecuted.
