The police command in Ogun says it has arrested three suspected members of a robbery gang who allegedly attacked a phone market in Abeokuta, the capital of the state.

On April 13, a trader was killed during an attack by a gang of armed robbers on the Tarmac phone market in Abeokuta.

One of the eight robbers was arrested while others fled the scene after a gun battle with the police.

In a statement on Sunday, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the suspects — Ajayi Kayode, Habeeb Idowu and Temitayo Oresanya.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following information received by police officers attached to Kemta divisional headquarters.

He said the intelligence revealed that the suspects had been hiding at the Abule Ake area of Kemta in Abeokuta.

The police spokesperson said Adeniyi Adekunle, the DPO of Kemta division, acted on the intel and mobilised his men to the scene where the suspects were apprehended.

“Two of the suspects have confessed their participation in the robbery incident, while the third suspect, Temitayo Oresanya, though affirmed to be a member of the same cult group with them, claimed that he didn’t participate in the robbery,” Oyeyemi said.

“He stated further that Ajayi Kayode and Habeeb Idowu came to his house at Abule Ake to hide from the police after their robbery escapade.

Oyeyemi said Olanrewaju Oladimeji, the commissioner of police in Ogun, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to state criminal investigation departments (SCID) for investigation.

The CP also said that the remaining members of the gang must be fished out and brought to justice.
