Police arrest three officers over ‘assault’ of civilian in Rivers

The Nigerian police Force (NPF) has arrested three officers for allegedly assaulting a civilian in Rivers state.

Muyiwa Adejobi, NPF spokesperson, in a post on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, uploaded a photo and names of the officers involved in the incident.

In a video clip circulating on social media, a police officer holding his rifle is seen beating a man with a cane and slapping him, while another officer is filmed pushing a lady into a car.

“These are the men who slapped a man on the road in Rivers. They reported at the Force Headquarters today. Trial will soon commence. We will update you as soon as possible,” Adejobi said.

Adejobi identified the police officers as Adejoh Siaka, Friday Obaka, and Ndiwa Kpuebari.

He described their action as “barbaric”, adding that it “does not portray the police in a good light at all”.

“I wonder how a man, a reasonable man, would be flogging or slapping a grown-up man in that manner,” he said.

Meanwhile, on April 6, the Delta state police command arrested a police inspector over the alleged murder of one Onyeka Ibe.

The incident happened along Ugbolu- Illah road at a stop-and-search point.
