The Lagos police command says two individuals are in custody for allegedly lynching a man accused of stealing cables in the state.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the arrest of the suspects on Monday.
Hundeyin said the Alausa police division received a tip-off on Sunday about a murder case, adding that the deceased was simply identified as Monday.
“The Alausa Police Division received information from a concerned member of the public about the case on Sunday at about 4:00 p.m,” NAN quoted Hundeyin as saying.

“The informant said that at about 3:00 a.m. of same date, he received a call from one of his brothers that one Monday has been lynched to death by some group of boys.
“The suspects and others still at large, conspired and murdered Monday after he was indicted for cable theft.
“After Monday was beaten to stupor, the suspects used copper wire to tie his neck and strangled him to death.”

The police spokesperson said a “thorough probe” of the incident is under way, adding that the victim’s body has been moved to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for autopsy.
