The police command in Imo says two persons have been arrested for allegedly extorting residents using a point of sale (POS) machine.
Michael Abattam, Imo commissioner of police, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Abattam said investigations conducted revealed that the suspects were responsible for “terrorising” residents along the Isu-Njaba road.
“In their efforts to guarantee a crime-free yuletide for Imo residents, the Imo State Police Command has successfully arrested some notorious armed robbers terrorising unsuspecting victims along Isu-Njaba road in Imo state,” the statement reads.

“On 1st of November, 2021, the command’s tactical teams, in line with CP Rabiu’s directives, while on aggressive patrols along Isu-Njaba road, arrested two young men Obiaka Uchenna of Isiozi Umuaka in Isu Njaba LGA of Imo state and Michael Ihunna of Uba Umuaka in Isu Njaba LGA of Imo state respectively, whom information revealed that, they are the ones robbing innocent people along Isu-Njaba road of the state.
“The suspects were brought to the station and upon interrogation, they confessed to the crime and mentioned one Ozor Nwako who is a welder, as the one that manufactures and sells the locally made guns to criminals. They admitted to have bought the two recovered guns from him.
“Investigation is still ongoing and efforts are on top gear to arrest other members of their gang mention during interrogation stressing that as soon as investigation is concluded the suspects will be charge to court.”

According to him, items recovered include two locally-made pistols, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge, one jack knife, one POS machine, among others.
The commissioner urged officers to intensify efforts towards ensuring that criminals have no place to hide in the state.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment towards improving security, and urged them to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
