Police arrest two for ‘stealing 25 phones’ in Borno

The Borno police command says its operatives have arrested two suspects for allegedly stealing 25 mobile phones on Damboa road in Maiduguri.

In a statement on Wednesday, Nahum Daso, the command’s spokesperson, said the arrest was made during a stop-and-search operation.

Daso said the suspects were intercepted by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Tuesday while riding a tricycle.

The spokesperson said operatives uncovered various mobile phones during the search, adding that the suspects confessed to snatching phones from victims in Borno and Adamawa communities.

“The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed, were intercepted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Dec. 10 while riding a tricycle,” NAN quoted Daso as saying.

“Some of the communities are Mubi, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Area of the state.

“The police have initiated efforts to return the recovered devices to their rightful owner.

“Also, the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

Yusufu Lawal, Borno police commissioner, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety during the festive season.
