Police arrest two for ‘supplying weapons to bandits’ in Kaduna

The Kaduna police command says two suspects have been arrested for alleged gunrunning in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Mansir Hassan, spokesperson of the command, said the suspects were apprehended by police operatives on April 4 following credible intelligence. 

The names of the suspects were given as Alkali Danladi and Gayya Koddi, aged 45 and 40 respectively.

Hassan said Danladi had been on the police radar for supplying firearms to bandits and was eventually apprehended at Tsurutawa village along the Kaduna-Jos highway.

He noted that Danladi was caught with several prohibited firearms.

Hassan said further investigation led to the arrest of  Koddi, while two other suspects are at large.

“Danladi was suspected of engaging in the illegal supply of firearms to bandits. He was arrested while coming from Jos, Plateau state,” Hassan added.

“During the interception, Danladi was found to have concealed several prohibited firearms, including one fabricated AK 47 rifle, five fabricated revolver rifles, and two fabricated pistols.

“Additionally, working tools such as fliers, screwdrivers and spanners, as well as charms, were discovered in his possession.”

He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, while urging them to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. 

“The Kaduna state police command, under the leadership of Ali Dabigi, the commissioner of police, has assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits,” he said.

“The commissioner also urges citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against illegal arms proliferation and criminal activities.”
