The Kaduna police command says two suspects have been arrested for supplying weapons to bandits operating in the Zaria area of the state.
In a statement on Monday, Mansur Hassan, police spokesperson in Kaduna, said the operatives also apprehended another suspect working as an informant for kidnappers operating in Gidan Dogo Forest.
Hassan said the kidnappers’ informant, identified as Abubakar Yahuza, was arrested on August 14.
He said the two suspects, Abdulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, are residents of Dogon Dawa, Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna.

“On Aug. 14, at about 1800 hours, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit successfully intercepted two male suspects in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle at Madaci village, Zaria.” the statement reads.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed they were involved in illicit selling and supplying of arms to bandits operating in the Zaria area of the state.
“Their confessions have provided crucial leads, and they are currently cooperating with the police in ongoing investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending their accomplices.

“At about 0800 hours, the DPO of Tafa Division, acting on credible information received from a reliable source, led a surveillance team to Gidan Abeh village, Kagarko LGA.
“On Aug 18, about 6:30 hrs, officers of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) stationed in Kuriga, responded swiftly to gunfire heard on the outskirts of the village.
“Upon arrival, they encountered two armed men on motorcycles attempting to abduct two farmers. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives.
“The rescued victims suffered head injuries inflicted by the assailants and were treated at the Kuriga Primary Health Care centre They have since been discharged.”

He added that Audu Dabigi, Kaduna commissioner of police, commended the officers and urged members of the public to support the command with information that will aid in discharging their duties.
