Police arrest two for ‘supplying weapons to bandits’ in Yobe

The Yobe police command says it has arrested two persons allegedly supplying weapons to bandits across various parts of the north.

NAN reports that Dungus Abdulkarim,  spokesperson of the command, announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday.

Abdulkarim said the suspects were arrested in possession of a remotely piloted machine gun.

He added that they were making weapons and other items available to bandits in different parts of Zamfara, Kano, Niger, Benue, and Yobe, among others.

He identified the suspects as Abubakar and Shehu.

He said 35-year-old Abubakar was nabbed along Karasuwa town after he had taken delivery of a rocket launcher which was hidden in his vehicle on September 14.

“He was arrested driving a Hiace 18-seater bus in Karasuwa, while on a mission to collect the mortar,” the police spokesperson said.

“He was intercepted after collecting it. He later implicated one Abubakar Shehu, aka Kurma, 32, of Bare Bare area by Maradun in Zamfara state.

“The first suspect confessed that the second suspect was the courier to bandits in Zamfara, and was trailed and arrested by Yobe police detectives in Maradun,”

The police spokesperson said the case is currently being investigated, adding that the suspects would be charged to court soon.

He added that Garba Ahmed, commissioner of police in Yobe, commended the operatives and urged citizens to support the command with information to tackle criminal activities in the state.
