On January 9, 2023, the agitators gathered around the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in the Ojota axis in Lagos for a “mega rally”.

The agitators gathered to demand what they described as a separate nation for the Yoruba people of Nigeria.

The rally, which initially started on a peaceful note, erupted into violence when police officers fired teargas canisters at the agitators.

Some of the agitators resisted the move of the police officers to disperse them.

After some minutes, a police van was seen burning in flames and some vehicles around the area were destroyed.

The Lagos police command had said two of its officers were shot by the agitators during the rally.

In a video that went viral at the time, Odofin could be seen narrating how police officers allegedly attacked the agitators. He also called for the destruction of vehicles as retaliation.
