Police ‘begin orderly room trial’ of officers who brutalised #EndSARS protesters

The Lagos state police command has commenced the orderly room trial of the officers who reportedly shot #EndSARS protesters in the Surulere area of the state.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, had identified Bagou Michael, Ekpoudom Etop, Nnamdi Majura, and Akinyemi Benson as the officers behind the attack on protesters.

The incident led to the death of Ikechukwu Iloamauzor and left many others injured.

Protesters in major cities across the nation on Friday held candlelight procession for victims of the special anti-robbery squad unit (SARS) brutalities.

In reaction, Sanwo-Olu said: “I have seen powerful images and videos of the #CandleForSARSVictims vigils held across the country. It calls for very sober reflections.”

“Yesterday, the orderly room trial of the police officers involved in the Surulere incident began,” the governor added.

“Some of the victims attended and will testify before the panel next week. Justice will be served. Thank you to the team actively following up and helping victims.

“There is so much more to be done and I will keep sharing the actions we are taking in line with my announcements.”

Despite the disbandment of the police unit, Nigerians are still on the streets demanding the prosecution of all police officers involved in the abuse and killing of citizens.
