Police begin security threat analysis at boarding schools

The Nigeria Police Force is set to immediately carry out security audit and threat analysis at all boarding schools across the country.

The latest effort at ensuring the safety of schools is coming on the orders of Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

“As part of deliberate and proactive efforts geared towards bolstering security network around boarding schools nationwide and also the safety and security of students and other stakeholders in the nation’s secondary institutions of learning, Inspector-General of Police, MD Abubakar, has ordered command commissioners of police to immediately commence security audit and threats analysis of boarding schools nationwide,” Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba,  said while relaying the IDP’s orders.

Mba explained that the aim of the exercise is to aid the Police in the task of designing security strategies that will help in promoting safety and security in the schools.

“It is equally expected that the result of the consultations, threat analysis, and the attendant security awareness campaigns will help in reducing the vulnerability of the schools and strengthen an otherwise soft terror target,” he said.

“To achieve the objective of this exercise, the Police will work with the Ministry of Education of various states, the management, and staff of the schools, the parents-teachers association, the host communities, and other stakeholders.”

The Police exercise is coming days after Boko Haram reportedly wrote to two schools in Makurdi, Benue State, threatening an attack.
