Police commission approves dismissal of CSP ‘who killed, planted gun on civilian’

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of a chief superintendent of police (CSP) who shot, killed and planted a gun on a civilian in Enugu state.

In a statement on Friday, Ikechukwu Abi, head, press and public relations, said the commission also approved the reinstatement of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), two corporals and a constable.

Ani said the decisions were reached at the 23rd plenary of the commission held in Abuja and presided over Mike Okiro, chairman of the commission.

“The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of a chief superintendent of police (CSP) for unlawful exercise of authority, discreditable conduct and for raising false report,” the statement read.

“The senior police pfficer was said to have shot and killed an innocent citizen in Igboeze south local government area of Enugu state and planted a gun on his victim which he branded an armed robber.

“The commission also approved the punishment of sever reprimand to another chief superintendent of police, (CSP) and two assistant superintendents of police (ASP) for various offences unbecoming of their respective offices and reprimand for one other assistant superintendent. It approved warning letter for another ASP.

“The rank/seniority of an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) was restored and two others, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) and a Sergeant, were reinstated and retired.

“The commission also affirmed its earlier decision on reinstatement of a sergeant and a corporal and approved the promotion and retirement of an assistant superintendent of police (ASP).”

He added that the commission’s decisions have been conveyed to Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police (IGP), for implementation.
