Police confirm attack on APC members in Rivers

The Rivers state police command has confirmed that unidentified gunmen attacked members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) travelling to Port Harcourt to attend the party’s presidential campaign.

Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of APC, flagged off his campaign at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Tuesday.

Muhammad Ahmad, the command’s spokesman, told NAN in Port Harcourt that unknown gunmen “opened fire on the APC supporters”.

Ahmad said the supporters were travelling in group from Buguma in Asari-Turu local government area to the capital of the state.

He said initial report showed that there were no casualties, disclosing that investigation into the incident had commenced.

He vowed that the suspects would be arrested and  justice would be done.

Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of the state, already blamed the attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The PDP believes in guns; we believe in God and man. We shall stand to face their guns,” he said. “I assure you as governor, if we stand together, they will do nothing.”
