Police deploy anti-bomb squad to Owo church

The Ondo police command says officers of the explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) unit, also known as anti-bomb squad, have been deployed to Owo LGA.

Earlier on Sunday, the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo was attacked by gunmen, leaving many injured and several others killed. 

The gunmen were said to have detonated explosives in the church before firing at the worshippers. 

NAN reports that Oyeyemi Oyediran, Ondo commissioner of police, said efforts were being intensified to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

“The command is aware of the attack at Owo, we will give you the full details of the incident later,” Funmilayo Odunlami, police spokesperson in Ondo, said in a statement.

“We want to implore the people of the state to be calm as all security apparatus are currently active to ensure peace in the area.”

Following the attack, Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, had promised that his administration will hunt down the perpetrators of the attack.
