Police deploy officers to ‘vulnerable areas’ for hitch-free yuletide in Zamfara

The Zamfara police command says it has deployed officers to provide security in vulnerable areas across the state.

In a statement on Saturday, Mohammed Shehu, the command spokesperson, said Kolo Yusuf, the Zamfara commissioner of police, approved the deployment of officers to “safeguard lives and property before, during and after the celebrations”.

He said the CP also patrolled the highways in order to ensure the safety of commuters across the state.

“In its commitment to ensure hitch-free Christmas and new year celebrations, the Zamfara state police command under the leadership of CP Kolo Yusuf, has assured the general public that security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the celebrations,” the spokesperson said.

“To this end, massive deployment of the police personnel and other security agencies to all churches, recreational centres and other vulnerable places have been made to ensure a peaceful and hitch free Christmas and new year celebrations in the state.

“To further strengthen the existing security emplacement, the commissioner of police has embarked on confidence building patrol of major highways, commencing from Gusau – Mafara – Sokoto road. 

“The patrol is aimed at ensuring safety and security of commuters and other road users. The CP also tasked area commanders, tactical commanders and DPOs  to adopt the same strategy in their respective jurisdictions.

“Similarly, members of the public are warned that  sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and fire crackers in the state has been banned and hence parents and guardians are advised to monitor their wards  to ensure they remain law-abiding citizens. 

“Road users are to be careful and vigilant while driving, and obey all traffic rules and cooperate with security agencies before, during and after the celebrations

“The commissioner of police on behalf of the command felicitates with  all citizens and residents of the state especially Christians community on Merry Christmas and a happy new year and urges them to use the period and pray for peace and security of the state and the nation as a whole.”
