The federal capital territory (FCT) police command says it has “strategically deployed” operatives within the city ahead of the Independence Day celebration.

Nigeria will commemorate its 64th anniversary on October 1.

However, the #EndBadGovernance movement has notified security operatives of a follow-up nationwide demonstration on Independence Day, to protest the prevailing economic hardship in the country.

In a statement on Monday, Josephine Adeh, FCT police spokesperson, said the deployment of the personnel is to ensure a hitch-free Independence Day celebration.

She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the command.

“The FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the upcoming October 1st Independence Day celebration, has strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment throughout the FCT,” the statement reads.
