The Rivers police command has exhumed the body of Gift Okpara, a suspected serial kidnapper, known as 2Baba, for identification.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, Grace Iringe-Koko, Rivers police spokesperson, said operatives have located the shallow grave where 2baba was buried.

In September 2023, Bako Angbashim, a divisional police officer (DPO) in Ahoada, Ahoada east LGA of Rivers, was killed when his team ran into an ambush while returning from an operation.

Some days later, Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, placed N100 million bounty on 2Baba and his gang for the murder of Angbashim.

On Tuesday, Iringe-Koko announced that a joint operation of the police, army, navy, air force, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) raided 2Baba’s gang hideout on February 17 and killed him.

The police spokesperson had said efforts were being made to recover the corpse after the gang leader was killed.

She commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for the air strikes conducted on 2baba’s camp on February 17.
