The Police Service Commission (PSC) has condemned the killing of Omobolale Raheem, a lawyer, in Lagos state.
Raheem was shot by a police officer in the Ajah area of the state on Christmas Day.
In a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, head of press and public relations, the commission directed the police leadership to hasten the investigation into the matter and forward the report for consideration and further disciplinary action.
The PSC also called on the police to put in place a formidable programme in weapon handling as cases of unprovoked shooting and killing of innocent Nigerians have become worrisome.

“The commission noted that the Police by its creation and constitutional mandate is expected to protect and save lives and not the other way round,” the commission said.
“The acting chairman of the commission, retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyion, on behalf of the management and staff commiserate with the family of the deceased, especially her husband, who was driving her home when they were accosted by the trigger-happy policeman.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos police command said two officers arrested over the killing would be released today.
