Police foil attack by teenage suicide bomber in Maiduguri

Damian Chukwu, the Borno police commissioner, says a suicide bomb attack was foiled in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

The police commissioner said the thwarted attack took place on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

He told the NAN that a teenage female bomber made the attempt around 8:30pm.

Chukwu said she tried to infiltrate a security checkpoint but was unsuccessful as security men shot at her and the improvised explosive device vest strapped to her body exploded.

He said the explosion blew the girl into pieces, noting that there were no other casualties in the attack.

The commissioner said operatives of the explosive ordinance department were deployed to sanitise the area.
