The Lagos police command says its operatives have foiled a “robbery attempt” on a tricyclist around Ikeja area of the state.

A statement on Thursday by Benjamin Hundeyin, the command spokesperson, said the incident was prevented by officers attached to the Alausa division who were on routine patrol.

Hundeyin said the officers spotted a tricycle operator being forcefully dragged by three men who attempted to dispossess him of his vehicle.

“Upon noticing an approaching police patrol van, the criminals took to their heels,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the officers chased the fleeing suspects, who abandoned a black bag while escaping.

“A thorough search of the bag led to recovery of one Beretta pistol, one live ammunition, one cutlass, one knife and assorted charms,” he said.

Hundeyin said the suspects are still at large, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.

He added that the tricyclist sustained injuries to the head and other parts of his body and was taken to the Lagos state emergency centre by the police.

Olohundare Jimoh, the commissioner of police in Lagos, commended the officers for their response.

The commissioner asked citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by promptly reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
