The police command in Kano says its operatives have recovered explosives and weapons intended for an attack during the national Tijjaniyya Maulud celebration recently held in the state.
On January 24, the command alerted residents to intelligence reports of a suspected plan by terrorists to target public gatherings in strategic locations across the state.
Speaking with journalists on Monday, Salman Garba, the commissioner of police in Kano, said operatives discovered the explosives and weapons at Tokarawa village in Gezawa LGA.
Garba said the planned attack was thwarted through a joint effort with other security agencies, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the identities of those involved and ensure they are brought to justice.
