The Ogun state police command says it has rescued three travellers kidnapped along the Siun/Ajura axis of Ogere-Remo road.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police public relations officer in the state, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The police spokesman identified the victims as Jibril Afolabi, Amusat Taofeek and Balikis Mohammed.

Oyeyemi said the victims were kidnapped around 3am on Friday in Obafemi-Owode LGA of the state.

He said they were abducted by a kidnap syndicate while coming from Ilorin, Kwara state capital, and heading to Owode Egbado.

Oyeyemi said the victims were double-crossed in their vehicle by the kidnappers who dragged them into the bush while other passengers fled.

He said the commissioner of police directed an immediate clampdown on the abductors, adding that the kidnappers abandoned the victims in the bush and fled.

“Receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun directed the Area Commander to mobilize men from all the divisions within the area and go after the hoodlums,” the statement read.

“He equally ordered the Command’s anti-kidnapping unit as well as SWAT to move to the scene.

“The entire bush was cordoned off and combed thoroughly with the assistance of hunters, local vigilantes and men of so-safe corps. The heat on them made them abandon the victims and took to flight.

“All the victims were there and they were rescued without any ransom paid. They have been escorted to their destination at Owode Egbado.”
