The police command in Kano says its operatives foiled an attempt by suspected hoodlums to invade the residence of Abdullahi Abbas, chairman of the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, said the command received a distress call at 6:30 pm on May 31 from Chiranchi junction in Gwale LGA of the state.
Kiyawa added that the assailants, “armed with dangerous weapons, were pelting people with stones and attempting to enter the APC chairman’s house”.
“A team led by the Gwale Divisional Police Officer (DPO) responded and foiled the attempted invasion, restoring normalcy to the area,” the statement reads.
Kiyawa said no arrest was made, but the investigation revealed that the incident was a fight between two rival gangs.
“The masterminds were identified as Abdul’Yassar, Alias Jonny, Birbiri, and Jinjiri Aljan,” he said.
Kiyawa said efforts to apprehend the suspects were in progress.
In recent weeks, Kano has witnessed a handful of unrest following an emirship tussle in the state.
The Kano house of assembly repealed the law that Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of the state, used to depose and exile Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano in 2020.

The repeal of the law paved the way for Sanusi’s reinstatement and Aminu Bayero’s dethronement as Emir of Kano.

The decision led to protests from supporters of the deposed Emir.
