Police inspector who visited family for Easter celebration killed by gunmen in Imo

Gunmen have killed Augustine Ukaegbu, an inspector of police, in Umuoshike Ogbor, Aboh-Mbaise LGA of Imo state.

The gunmen were said to have killed the police officer who was in Umuoshike Ogbor, his hometown, to celebrate Easter with his family.

A community source who chose to remain anonymous, told TheCable that the police officer was kidnapped by the gunmen and he was later found dead.

“He was serving at the Orji divisional police headquarters. He only went home to celebrate Easter and the unfortunate incident happened,” the source said.

“Around 11pm on April 8, some gunmen riding in a Lexus jeep drove into his house and kidnapped him.

“Later on, the jeep they came with to kidnap him was found along Mbutu road in Aboh-Mbaise. When the police in the area visited the scene and searched through the bush, his lifeless body was found.”

The source said that the corpse has been deposited in the mortuary by security operatives and that the jeep has been recovered and kept in custody.

Henry Okoye, police spokesperson in Imo, confirmed the incident, adding that officers are on the trail of the assailants.
