The Kaduna police command says its operatives busted a rail track vandalism operation and intercepted trucks loaded with “rail slippers” in the Zango Kataf LGA of the state.

In a statement on Monday, Muhammad Jalige, the command’s spokesperson, said the officers reacted to intelligence that “an unspecified number of unknown persons” were vandalising the rail tracks at Sanzwan in the Zonkwa area of the LGA on June 22.

He added that the suspects fled the scene upon the arrival of the police.

In another operation on June 25, the command intercepted two additional trucks “fully loaded with railway slippers”.

“An unspecified number of unknown persons came to Sanzwan in Zonkwa, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, in an articulated vehicle (DAF) with reg no DAL 172 YL and vandalised about 600 pieces of railway slippers,” the statement read.

“On receipt of the information, police personnel were quickly mobilised to the crime scene. On sighting the police officers, the suspects fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle meant to convey the vandalised items,” he said.

Jalige said that efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects as investigation continues.
