Police kill ‘bandit’ in Katsina, recover weapon

The Katsina police command says it has killed a suspected bandit in Ketare ward, Kankara LGA of the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the police spokesperson in the state, said operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the command responded swiftly and tracked the bandits to Bulunkuza village, where they killed one of the assailants.

“Information was received at the Kankara Divisional Police Headquarters that bandits, in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, attacked Gidan Dan Ali village in Kankara LGA,” the statement reads.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO Kankara divisional headquarters, CSP Iliyasu Ibrahim, mobilised a team of police operatives, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and vigilance group members to the scene.

“The team successfully tracked the assailants down to Bulunkuza village, where they gallantly engaged them in a fierce gun duel, forcing the criminals to abandon their plan and flee the scene.

“During the course of scanning the scene, the body of one neutralised suspected bandit and one AK-47 rifle were recovered.”

The police spokesperson said Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, the state commissioner of police, commended the operatives for their gallantry and urged the public to assist the police with relevant information to smoke out criminals in the state.
