Police ‘kill bandits, rescue five kidnap victims’ in Katsina

The Katsina police command says its operatives killed two suspected bandits during an attack on Layin Minister village in Malumfashi LGA of the state.

In a statement on Monday, Abubakar Aliyu, Katsina police spokesperson, said the officers were deployed to the location where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

Aliyu said the police overpowered the bandits, as many of them fled the location with gunshot injuries.

“On August 25, 2024, at about 1000 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi divisional police headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five (5) people,” the statement reads.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives were quickly dispatched to the scene. On noticing the presence of the police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, to which the team responded gallantly.

“All the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt as the assailants succumbed to the superior firepower of the operatives and fled the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries.”

In another development, the police killed two suspected bandits during an attack on Marabar Kankara village in Malumfashi LGA.

He said the bandits, who arrived on twelve motorcycles, were armed with dangerous weapons and began shooting sporadically.

“On receipt of the information, DPO Malumfashi swiftly mobilized operatives and responded to the scene,” he said.

“The team gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully foiled the attack. In the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of two (2) neutralized suspected armed bandits were recovered from the scene.”

The police spokesperson added that the command has intensified efforts to ensure the fleeing suspects are apprehended.
