David Shodola, a 32-year-old man suspected to be mentally challenged, has been killed by the police in Ogun.
Omotola Odutola, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), confirmed the news to reporters on Friday.
The police spokesperson said Shodola beheaded Alfred Opadipe, an 84-year-old man, in Iperu community, Remo north LGA of Ogun.
Odutola said following a call received from an unnamed informant, police officers, led by Bankole Eluyeru, the Isara divisional police officer (DPO), went to the scene of the incident.

He said an attempt to arrest the suspect was “fiercely resisted” as he used “a machete on the divisional police officer and his men”.
The police spokesperson said the team succeeded in neutralising the suspect.
Odutola, however, said from the intelligence gathered by the police, there was no report of the suspect being mentally challenged.
